This qualification provides the knowledge and skills needed to assist a dentist, dental hygienist or dental therapist during all health care procedures, to help maintain high standards of infection control and to assist with practice administration and supporting quality and professionalism in the dental sector.

Students undertake work experience as part of this course to meet competency requirements and ensure they are work ready.

This qualification reflects the role of workers who assist a dentist, dental hygienist, dental prosthetist, dental therapist or oral health therapist during oral health care procedures. Their role includes maintaining high standards of infection control, assisting with practice administration and supporting quality and professionalism in the dental sector.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 50 hours of dental assisting work in a simulated environment and 300 hours of dental assisting work in a dental clinic workplace.

Local students: 9 months / 3 terms
